You could just run a "mod" with no changes with a custom save path and that'll still work. Watch this video from 0:32 to 1:30 or so, he explains how to set up mod save paths.
This will be important because you'll definitely want to save your character files if you want to bring these characters into Diablo 2 to be resurrected. I will tell you the precise location where you can find these files and where you need to copy and save them.
You can find the location of the Diablo II: Resurrected save file here. The game does support having your savefile backed up by on the Cloud. But if you still want to find your save file locally on your PC, then you can follow this guide.
cjnoone 7 years ago #1 Just a heads up, as one of the compatibility fixes for Diablo 2 in 1.14, games are saved in a new location. They used to be saved in \Save, I believe.
